As Lufthansa Airlines prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026, the carrier has announced a bold new step in passenger experience design. The initiative, known as FOX – Future Onboard Experience, is set to redefine long-haul travel across all cabin classes and reinforce Lufthansa’s premium positioning in the global aviation market.
Over the next twelve months, Lufthansa will invest more than €70 million in FOX, a program aimed at upgrading service elements, processes, and cabin touchpoints on long-haul aircraft. Unlike previous initiatives tied to cabin hardware alone, FOX focuses on the holistic onboard journey, encompassing service flexibility, culinary variety, comfort upgrades, and the airline’s signature touches.
Explaining the ambition behind FOX, Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, said: “We are investing over 70 million euros in our new Future Onboard Experience in the next twelve months alone. We are thus investing in a top premium product, in the satisfaction of our guests and in the future of our airline. With more individuality, greater comfort and extraordinary Lufthansa Signature Moments, we are building on what has always characterized us over the past 100 years: being an attentive and unique host above the clouds.”

The FOX program will roll out on Lufthansa’s long-haul fleet, including both the newest widebodies like the Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900, as well as aircraft not yet fitted with the airline’s Allegris cabins. This ensures a consistent enhancement of the travel experience across Economy, Premium Economy, Business, and First Class.
By layering FOX on top of Allegris, Lufthansa’s most ambitious cabin redesign in decades — the airline is signaling its intention to integrate hard product innovation with service transformation.
Key elements of FOX
1. Individuality
Passenger choice lies at the heart of FOX. In Business Class, travelers will be able to select their second meal flexibly at a time that suits them, with a broad menu of savory, sweet, snack, and hot options. In Economy and Premium Economy, the meal service will expand from two to three menu options, giving passengers greater control over their in-flight dining.
2. Comfort
The FOX program emphasizes tactile luxury and attention to detail. Lufthansa is introducing high-quality amenities, upgraded textiles, and brand-new tableware across all four cabins. The tableware is designed to be functional yet refined, enhancing both the dining ritual and the sense of premium value onboard.
3. Lufthansa Signature Moments
FOX builds on Lufthansa’s iconic traditions while creating new, memorable experiences. Classic hallmarks such as the First Class rose, the caviar service, and the “Avionic” signature cocktail remain central, while culinary offerings expand into what Lufthansa calls a “triad of home, variety, and signature.” Meals will be curated by top chefs, often tied to either the destination or point of departure, creating immersive culinary journeys with a Lufthansa identity.
The FOX program will officially launch in spring 2026, coinciding with the airline’s centenary celebrations. For Lufthansa, FOX is not just a service upgrade, it is a statement of how a century-old brand can combine tradition with modernity, and how passenger individuality, comfort, and memorable experiences remain key differentiators in the premium travel market.
By integrating FOX into its fleet strategy alongside Allegris, Lufthansa positions itself at the intersection of design, service, and heritage, underscoring its ambition to remain a global benchmark in passenger experience.
