Textron Aviation has secured FAA certification for Gogo Galileo HDX on the Cessna Citation Longitude and Citation Latitude, bringing a new-generation satellite connectivity option to the two business jets and expanding the technology available for connected cabin experiences.

Powered by Eutelsat’s OneWeb low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite network, Gogo Galileo HDX is designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity across a global operating footprint. The system uses a fuselage-mounted antenna intended to simplify installation compared with other satellite connectivity solutions.

Textron Aviation said factory-new Citation Longitude and Latitude aircraft delivered from 2028 will be eligible for no-charge installation. Customers who select the system will also receive a preferred worldwide service rate, guaranteed for three years. Textron Aviation said it is the first original equipment manufacturer to offer this type of no-charge installation option.

For the business aviation cabin interiors sector, the certification highlights the growing role of connectivity in cabin design and passenger experience. Reliable internet access supports video streaming, video conferencing, cloud-based applications and other digital services that passengers increasingly expect to use throughout a flight.

Chris Hearne, senior vice president, Engineering & Programs at Textron Aviation, said the certification gives Citation customers another factory-supported connectivity option to help them remain productive wherever they fly.

Satellite connectivity shapes cabin integration

The introduction of Gogo Galileo HDX adds another option for integrating connectivity into the Citation Longitude and Latitude cabin environment. Unlike cabin features that are primarily visual or ergonomic, satellite internet depends on equipment installed across the aircraft, including an external antenna and associated onboard systems.

For cabin designers and completion specialists, this creates a need to coordinate connectivity requirements with aircraft configuration, equipment placement, and the wider cabin technology architecture. The aim is to provide passengers with consistent access to digital services while maintaining the intended cabin layout and passenger environment.

The Citation Longitude features a stand-up, flat-floor cabin with seating for up to 12 passengers, while the Citation Latitude offers a spacious, flat-floor cabin designed to accommodate up to nine passengers. Both aircraft incorporate cabin management systems that allow passengers to control aspects of their environment and access entertainment through personal electronic devices.

Satellite connectivity can complement these systems by extending the use of personal devices and online applications beyond locally stored entertainment. It also supports the expectations of business aviation customers who use flight time for work, communication, and collaboration.

Christopher Moore, chief executive officer of Gogo, said the system combines connectivity performance with cybersecurity and data privacy protections, supported by round-the-clock customer service.

Connectivity becomes part of the cabin experience

The FAA certification establishes an approved installation option for the two Citation models, allowing customers ordering eligible new aircraft to consider connectivity as part of their initial specification rather than arranging a separate upgrade later.

The development also reflects a broader shift in business aviation interiors, where passenger expectations increasingly extend beyond seating, lighting, materials and physical comfort to include digital access and connected services. Connectivity systems must work alongside cabin management, entertainment and communication technologies to deliver a cohesive passenger experience.

For cabin equipment suppliers and completion centres, this trend creates opportunities to coordinate interior design with connectivity and onboard digital systems earlier in the aircraft configuration process. Integration planning can help ensure that technology requirements are considered alongside cabin aesthetics, functionality and usability.

Textron Aviation has not announced a wider retrofit programme for Citation aircraft already in service. However, the certification gives new Longitude and Latitude customers an additional factory-supported option as demand for connected business aviation cabins continues to develop.

The approval marks a further step in making high-speed satellite connectivity part of the standard cabin technology choices available to business jet operators, reinforcing the importance of digital services in the design and specification of modern aircraft interiors.
