Bombardier has officially opened its new Innovation and Design Centre in Montreal, marking a pivotal step in the company’s commitment to customer-centric innovation in business aviation. Strategically located within close proximity to Bombardier’s primary manufacturing facilities in the greater Montreal area, the new Centre is designed to accelerate the pace of interior innovation, strengthen design leadership, and maintain the company’s competitive edge by delivering meaningful enhancements to the customer experience.
The facility is envisioned as a dedicated space for confidential, rapid-cycle experimentation. It will house full-scale cabin mockups, advanced prototyping equipment, and highly specialized workspaces to develop and test future-forward interior concepts and onboard solutions. Importantly, these innovation initiatives will operate independently of specific aircraft development programs or platform upgrades ensuring Bombardier can introduce transformative design innovations directly into its product portfolio at a faster pace.
“In the business aviation sector, innovating is a question of competitiveness and has a tremendous impact on our overall performance in the market. Our customers expect the very best and we have maintained, throughout the years, a steadfast commitment on delivering nothing short of that,” said Éric Martel, president and chief executive officer, Bombardier. “Bombardier’s history was built on a culture of innovation and a strong dedication to changing industry paradigms. With the Innovation and Design Centre, we double down on our long-standing commitment to our customers worldwide, to offer a cutting-edge experience, unmatched across the industry.”

At the heart of the new Centre is a multidisciplinary team composed of industrial designers, engineers, master craftsmen, upholsterers, and prototypists, all working collaboratively to deliver interior innovations that combine elegance with functionality. The space allows these experts to build full-size cabin mock-up’s and rapidly iterate on product concepts from lighting systems and seating ergonomics to connectivity modules and environmental controls. These early-stage ideas will be tested rigorously for service reliability, seamless integration into production lines, and manufacturability.
“Stimulated by the combination of their expertise, our diverse teams from industrial designers, engineers, craftsmen, upholsterers to prototypes now have the means they need to turn their ideas into reality,” said Sean Johnson, vice-president, aircraft innovation, Bombardier. “In the greatest of secrecy and off-critical path, our teams will focus entirely on new product design and innovation. This purpose-built centre will foster the environment required to channel their talents more effectively, enabling Bombardier to set a new industry standard.”
This latest investment builds on Bombardier’s reputation for delivering award-winning cabin experiences. The company’s Global 7500 introduced a clean-sheet interior design that set new benchmarks in long-range comfort and design sophistication. Meanwhile, the Challenger 3500’s refreshed cabin was recently recognized with the Red Dot Award: Best of the Best, reflecting Bombardier’s ability to merge luxury with advanced technology. Both platforms serve as examples of how design excellence continues to differentiate Bombardier in the ultra-competitive business aviation landscape.
From ergonomically optimized seats to modular entertainment systems and personalized ambient lighting, Bombardier has consistently emphasized passenger-centric innovation. The new Centre is expected to fast-track future breakthroughs in cabin modularity, sustainability materials, and smart cabin systems, areas that are increasingly critical to today’s business aviation clientele.
As demand for bespoke and high-performance aircraft interiors continues to rise, the Innovation and Design Centre positions Bombardier to stay ahead of industry trends while reinforcing its long-standing heritage of excellence in design, craftsmanship, and technological advancement.
