Lufthansa Group will begin installing Starlink-based inflight connectivity across its fleet, with the first equipped aircraft, a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo, scheduled to enter service on August 19.
The new “Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi” system uses Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit satellite network to provide higher-speed connectivity than the group’s existing FlyNet service. The system is designed to support web browsing, video streaming, and cloud-based applications during flight.

The rollout covers approximately 850 aircraft operated by Lufthansa Group airlines, with fleet-wide installation targeted for 2029. Lufthansa will introduce the system first, followed by SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa City Airlines and Eurowings.
From a cabin systems perspective, the installation adds a new connectivity layer to the aircraft’s onboard passenger experience. The Starlink equipment enables satellite-based data transmission to and from the aircraft, allowing passengers to maintain an internet connection during flight rather than relying solely on traditional onboard connectivity infrastructure.
The service will be available across all travel classes at no additional charge to Miles & More members and Travel ID users.

Lufthansa Group has also established onboard usage restrictions for the new connectivity service. Passengers will be required to use headphones when consuming audio or video content. Voice and video calls, as well as live broadcasting from the aircraft, will not be permitted.
The Starlink installation forms part of Lufthansa Group’s wider investment in aircraft, cabin products and onboard systems. The rollout will require the connectivity equipment to be integrated across multiple aircraft types and airline fleets over the coming years.
The first Lufthansa A320neo equipped with Starlink Wi-Fi is scheduled to operate from August 19, marking the start of the group-wide installation programme.
