With 150 Starlink-equipped widebody aircraft now in service and more than 23 million passengers already connected, Qatar Airways is rapidly redefining what travellers expect from the connected cabin.
Doha, Qatar: Qatar Airways has reached another milestone in the race to deliver seamless onboard connectivity, becoming the world’s first airline to operate a Starlink-equipped Boeing 787-9 while expanding its connected widebody fleet to 150 aircraft.
The achievement marks another major step in one of aviation’s fastest cabin connectivity rollouts, with the airline confirming that more than half of its Boeing 787 fleet is now equipped with Starlink and the remaining aircraft scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
Building the connected cabin
For Qatar Airways, the milestone is about more than installing satellite internet; it is about transforming the passenger experience across an entire long-haul fleet.
The airline has already completed Starlink installations across its Boeing 787-8 fleet in just seven months, following earlier record-breaking rollouts across its Boeing 777 fleet in nine months and its Airbus A350 fleet in eight months.
Together, those achievements have positioned Qatar Airways as the world’s largest operator of Starlink-equipped widebody aircraft across all three fleet types.
When connectivity crosses with cabin experience
As passenger expectations continue to evolve, onboard connectivity is increasingly becoming as essential as entertainment, lighting and seating comfort.
With Starlink delivering internet speeds of up to 500 Mbps, passengers can work, stream content, make video calls and stay connected throughout their journey without the traditional interruptions associated with inflight Wi-Fi.
The service is available free of charge on eligible flights and operates from gate to gate, extending the digital experience across long-haul and ultra-long-haul routes spanning six continents.
Millions connected
Since introducing Starlink onboard in October 2024, more than 23 million passengers have used the service across 86,000 flights, highlighting growing demand for uninterrupted connectivity during travel.
Today, Qatar Airways operates up to 323 Starlink-enabled flights each day, making high-speed internet an increasingly standard part of the airline’s premium cabin experience.
New benchmark
As airlines continue investing in next-generation cabin technologies, Qatar Airways’ rapid Starlink deployment demonstrates how connectivity has evolved from an optional passenger amenity into a core element of modern aircraft interiors.
With more installations planned through 2026, the airline is setting a new benchmark for digitally connected cabins—one where passengers can remain seamlessly connected from departure gate to arrival, no matter where their journey takes them.
