Finnair has expanded its complimentary onboard internet benefit for members of its Finnair Plus loyalty programme, giving Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum Lumo members access to internet connectivity throughout their flight on Finnair-operated Airbus aircraft.
The enhanced benefit allows eligible members to stay connected for the duration of their journey, enabling passengers to communicate with family and friends, work remotely, use online applications and access entertainment while onboard.
The new internet benefit is visible in members’ Finnair Plus profiles. Passengers with upcoming bookings can also check their connectivity entitlement through the Finnair mobile app or the airline’s Manage booking service.
Finnair Plus Basic members continue to receive a complimentary messaging package on short-haul flights operated by Airbus A321, A320 and A319 aircraft. The messaging benefit allows passengers to remain connected with family and friends during their journey.
For other passengers, Finnair offers a range of paid internet packages on its long-haul and short-haul services. Internet packages can be purchased during the booking process, through Manage booking, via the Finnair app, during online check-in, or onboard through the Nordic Sky portal.
On most short-haul flights, onboard Wi-Fi is generally available from departure through arrival. On long-haul services, connectivity is typically available around 15 minutes after take-off.
To connect, passengers need to switch their device to flight mode, activate Wi-Fi, and select the NORDIC SKY network. They can then access the Finnair Wi-Fi portal at wifi.finnair.com to activate their complimentary benefit or purchase an internet package.
The internet package is device-specific and can only be used on the device on which it was activated. Once activated, the package cannot be paused; for example, a one-hour package remains active for one hour regardless of whether the passenger is actively using the connection.
Finnair also advises passengers to charge their electronic devices before boarding or at the airport. Power banks cannot be used onboard, while long-haul aircraft are equipped with in-seat power outlets for charging electronic devices.
The expanded Wi-Fi benefit reflects the growing role of onboard connectivity as part of the passenger experience, with airlines increasingly using reliable internet access and loyalty-programme benefits to enhance the journey and provide greater flexibility for both leisure and business travellers.
