Emirates is propelling its ambitious retrofit programme into a new phase, announcing the deployment of its newly refurbished Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s to eight additional cities across its global network. In a move that underscores its commitment to premium passenger experience and fleet consistency, the airline also confirmed the debut of its long-range Airbus A350s later this year, beginning with flights to Adelaide from December 1.
The expansion will see Emirates’ refreshed A380s arriving in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Nice, and Perth, while the upgraded Boeing 777s will be introduced to routes serving Madrid, Kuala Lumpur, Phuket, Frankfurt, and a second refitted service to Dublin. These developments bring the number of destinations served by Emirates’ latest cabin products, including the newly delivered A350s, to over 70 cities, offering passengers a seamless and elevated in-flight experience whether travelling to or through Dubai.

At the heart of this transformation is Emirates’ colossal $5 billion retrofit programme, one of the largest and most comprehensive in aviation history. Managed entirely in-house by the airline’s Emirates Engineering team, the initiative involves nose-to-tail refurbishment of 219 aircraft, including 110 Airbus A380s and 109 Boeing 777s. Since the programme began in November 2022, Emirates has completed upgrades on 51 widebody aircraft, now flying to 38 cities worldwide. Each retrofit operation is a feat of coordination and craftsmanship, taking an average of 22 days for an A380 and 18 days for a 777, with two aircraft rolling out refreshed every month.
The scope of Emirates’ retrofit work is immense:
- over 8,500 new Premium Economy seats,
- more than 2,000 updated First-Class suites,
- nearly 13,000 Business Class seats with redesigned configurations, and
- Upwards of 68,000 revamped Economy seats will be installed.
The material demands reflect this scale, with 218,000 metres of seat fabric, 130,000 square metres of leather for premium seating, 132,000 square metres of new carpeting, and 14,000 square metres of laminate applied across cabin interiors.

As part of the upcoming expansion, passengers on Emirates flights EK372/373 to Bangkok will enjoy the airline’s refreshed A380s from July 1. Hong Kong will receive its first four-class configured A380 with Emirates’ latest interiors on EK380/381 from October 1, complementing a retrofitted 777 on the same route. Nice will debut Premium Economy on EK077/078 from October 15, while Perth will receive its next-generation A380 beginning October 26. Madrid becomes the first Spanish destination to feature Emirates’ updated Boeing 777 interiors on EK143/144 from October 15, with similar aircraft heading to Kuala Lumpur and Frankfurt in mid-October and mid-December, respectively. Phuket and Dublin will join the retrofit wave with upgraded 777s from December 1.
As a major fleet milestone, Emirates will also introduce its first Airbus A350-900ULR, which will have a nonstop service in Adelaide starting December 1. The new long-range aircraft capable of flying over 15 hours and 14,000 km will feature 32 lie-flat Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 238 Economy seats. Emirates expects to receive five A350s by the end of 2025, all designated for long-haul routes.
This latest push also signals Emirates’ ascent as a global leader in Premium Economy. Since launching the product, the airline has seen exceptional demand, with load factors averaging above 80% on long-haul flights. By the end of 2025, Emirates will offer over 2 million Premium Economy seats per year—a figure set to double to 4 million annually by 2026. Nearly 40% of the fleet will feature the new cabin design by the end of this year, including refreshed Business and First-Class experiences.
Commenting on the expansion, Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, stated that the roll-out of refurbished aircraft and new A350s provides a powerful proposition for travelers seeking consistent, high-end onboard experiences. “The scaling up of our Premium Economy offering strengthens our competitive proposition to travellers and makes it our strategic differentiator,” he said. “Deploying our first long-range A350 to Adelaide is an exciting development and underscores the importance of Australia as a major eastbound anchor in our network.”
Emirates’ retrofit programme is not just a matter of aesthetics—it represents a fundamental reshaping of the passenger experience. From sustainable materials and new seating to harmonised interiors across classes, the airline is positioning itself to lead the next era of cabin innovation. As more aircraft roll out from the programme and new A350s join the fleet, Emirates continues to elevate its promise: delivering modern luxury at scale, city by city, seat by seat.
