Duncan Aviation has pushed the boundaries of aircraft customization with the stunning refurbishment of a Gulfstream G550 at its full-service maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility in Battle Creek, Michigan. This remarkable transformation embodies the owner’s vision of an understated yet luxurious flying experience, showcasing a sleek new paint job, elegant emerald green seating, satin almond gold finishes, and the latest in satellite connectivity technology.
A Fresh Start
The aircraft was recently acquired by a new owner, who wanted to move away from the previous design that showcased outdated blue tones and elements. Although the original interior was in great shape, the owner was ready for a change.
“When we started, the owner mentioned a preference for emerald green or burgundy red seats,” explained Designer Jack Bauder. “That guided our entire design palette.” The Duncan Aviation team in Battle Creek worked closely with their colleagues in Lincoln, Nebraska, to finalize the design during a collaborative session with the owner.
Bold Colors and Elegant Touches
The standout feature of the interior transformation is the stunning emerald green seats, meticulously hand-stitched by Duncan Aviation’s Upholstery shop. “The owner’s love for jewel tones drove our choice of a rich green,” said Senior Lead Designer Mary Lee. “We paired it with a warm beige palette to enhance the sophisticated feel of the cabin.”
The carpet design adds a unique flair without overpowering the space. Made from a single warm neutral yarn, the shearing technique creates an intriguing light and dark pattern.
The existing veneer was revitalized with a darker stain to match the new aesthetic. Solid surface countertops were upgraded to a modern white material with marbling, providing a striking contrast against the darker wood. The countertops now feature a simulated white quartz finish, elevating the overall look.
New materials for the upper sidewalls include Ultraleather, while the lower sidewalls are made from a durable synthetic material that mimics leather. The updated window panels feature a subtle ripple texture, adding depth to the design.
Luxurious Finishing Touches
Details like satin almond gold plating, a modified hanging glass rack for stemless wine glasses, and custom beige and green throw pillows enhance the cabin’s luxurious vibe. A plush mohair divan adds comfort, while the updated flight deck features lighter Ultraleather on the window panels and headliner to brighten the area.
Eye-Catching Exterior
After the interior was revamped, the focus shifted to the aircraft’s exterior. The new paint scheme includes a Matterhorn white base, topped with a light gold pearl field over the cockpit and a sleek stripe along the fuselage. Emerald green and gold accents tie beautifully into the cabin’s design.
“This new paint scheme offers a modern twist on a classic design,” Bauder noted. “The owner loved the clean lines, which we painted in pearlescent green and gold to match the interior perfectly.”
The owner is thrilled with the final result, which captures their vision and personal style. With this project, Duncan Aviation continues to lead the way in luxury aircraft customization, offering bespoke solutions that take the flying experience to a whole new level.
