SkyFive is teaming up with Lufthansa Technik to bring super-fast, affordable Air-to-Ground (A2G) broadband to commercial airlines worldwide. The partnership will speed up A2G installations for narrowbody fleets, with Lufthansa Technik handling the design, certification, and manufacturing of installation kits, making it easier for airlines to offer seamless in-flight Wi-Fi.
research shows that 74% of single-aisle aircraft still don’t have broadband connectivity. A2G tech, which connects planes to the internet via ground stations, is a simple and cost-effective way to close that gap. The antenna is small, about the size of your hand, so it doesn’t take up much space, making it perfect for narrowbody aircraft like the A320 or Boeing 737.
SkyFive’s partnership with Lufthansa Technik comes as demand for A2G connectivity is soaring. Over the last two years, the number of planes using A2G has doubled, and this deal will help SkyFive roll out the tech faster to meet the growing demand. Lufthansa Technik is already a pro at getting in-flight connectivity approved with its experience in Supplemental Type Certification (STC), meaning they can get the tech up and running quicker.
