At the recently concluded Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg, Ethiopian Airlines inked a major strategic partnership with Bucher Aircraft Interior Solutions, selecting the Swiss manufacturer to supply next-generation Galleys for its upcoming Boeing 777-9 aircraft.
This move reflects Ethiopian Airlines’ unwavering commitment to enhancing cabin experience and operational efficiency, reinforcing its standing as Africa’s leading and fastest-growing airline. The deal is also a significant win for Bucher, known for its innovative and lightweight aircraft interior solutions.
“Collaborating with Bucher to outfit our new 777-9 fleet demonstrates our commitment to passenger comfort and innovation,” said Mesfin Tasew, Group Chief Executive, Ethiopian. “As a strategically vital airline for our country, we continually seek partners who align with our vision for expansive growth and enhanced service quality.”
Under the agreement, Bucher will supply custom-engineered Galleys designed to optimize both space and functionality, enabling smoother workflow for cabin crew while contributing to improved passenger service. The new Galleys are expected to integrate seamlessly with the long-haul B777-9’s design, supporting the airline’s high-capacity, global operations.
“We are delighted to partner with Ethiopian Airlines in this significant project,” said Beat Burlet, chief executive, Bucher. “Our team is committed to delivering bespoke Galleys that meet the expansive needs of this strategically important airline.”
This collaboration underscores a broader trend in the aviation industry: airlines increasingly prioritizing cabin innovation and ergonomic functionality as key differentiators.
The integration of Bucher’s lightweight and highly durable interiors into Ethiopian’s newest widebody aircraft also aligns with the carrier’s focus on operational efficiency and environmental sustainability, a hallmark of its fleet strategy.
As part of its ‘Vision 2035’ growth strategy, Ethiopian Airlines continues to lead by example in fleet modernization, regional connectivity, and global partnerships. With operations spanning over 160 destinations across five continents, the airline is cementing its role as a bridge between Africa and the world both in terms of transportation and technological progress.
The agreement also reflects Bucher Group’s continued evolution from a niche supplier to a global cabin solutions provider, leveraging its expertise in lightweight engineering and customization from its production hubs in Switzerland, Germany, and the US
For both companies, this partnership is not just about galleys, it is about setting new benchmarks in passenger experience and operational excellence on a truly international scale.
