In a landmark move redefining in-flight connectivity, Qatar Airways has become the first airline in the world to fully retrofit and operate more than 50 aircraft with SpaceX’s Starlink Wi-Fi. A total of 54 Boeing 777s in the airline’s fleet are now equipped with the low-Earth orbit satellite technology, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of digital passenger experience at 35,000 feet.
This breakthrough is far more than a technological upgrade; it is a strategic leap in aviation innovation. With internet speeds reaching up to 500 Mbps per aircraft, Starlink enables high-speed, low-latency connectivity, allowing passengers to enjoy seamless streaming, real-time messaging, and ultra-responsive browsing throughout their journey.
Notably, the pace of implementation has been as impressive as the technology itself. Originally projected as a two-year rollout, Qatar Airways completed the transformation across its 777 fleet in just nine months. Installation times were reduced from three days to just 9.5 hours per aircraft, allowing the retrofit to proceed without disruption to operations.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said, “This new milestone demonstrates our strategic investment in redefining our passengers’ expectations. We promised the fastest, most seamless in-flight connectivity in the industry, and with Starlink, we have delivered it faster and at an unmatched scale. Having completed our rollout programme for Boeing 777s, we are now fully focused on equipping our Airbus A350 fleet with Starlink, bringing this game-changing experience to even more routes across our global network of over 170 destinations.”

Building on the momentum of this success, Qatar Airways has now commenced the next phase of integration, targeting its Airbus A350 fleet, with full Starlink installation expected within 12 months.

With this achievement, Qatar Airways now operates the largest fleet of widebody aircraft globally equipped with Starlink, a reflection of its leadership in both digital innovation and passenger-centric service. Since debuting the world’s first Starlink-equipped 777 in October 2024, the airline has already flown more than 15,000 Starlink-connected flights, a testament to the scale and efficiency of the deployment.
This initiative solidifies Qatar Airways’ position at the forefront of long-haul and ultra-long-haul connectivity. It also signals a broader transformation, a deliberate effort to craft a digital inflight experience as refined and luxurious as its physical cabin environment.

In a world where seamless digital access is no longer a perk but an expectation, Qatar Airways has ensured that the sky is no longer the limit but merely the starting point for connected travel.
