WestJet has rolled out a major cabin reconfiguration across its Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 737-800 aircraft, transforming former all-Economy layouts into interiors that align more closely with the rest of the airline’s fleet. The upgrade introduces a wider range of seating choices, refreshed amenities, and new connectivity options powered by TELUS, designed to enhance the passenger experience while maintaining operational efficiency.
In Economy Class, slimline seats with fixed recline now feature improved contouring, enhanced cushions, and four-way adjustable headrests. Each seat incorporates personal device holders and in-seat power, while redesigned lavatories and galleys contribute to a more modern cabin environment. A new Extended Comfort section offers 36 seats with extra legroom directly behind Premium, separated by a cabin divider, with exit row seating continuing to provide maximum legroom options.
The Premium cabin has been expanded with 12 additional seats, identical to those found on WestJet’s 787-9 Dreamliner fleet. The design includes ergonomically contoured cushions, reclining seat backs, and large adjustable headrests, ensuring a consistent premium experience across aircraft types.

The use of ultra slimline seats has allowed WestJet to add one extra row compared to prior layouts, reducing cost per seat while broadening passenger choice. “The cabin has been thoughtfully designed to offer WestJet’s welcoming service at every budget,” said Samantha Taylor, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Experience Officer. “It reflects our commitment to elevating every aspect of the travel experience and meeting guest demand for a broader range of product offerings.”
Development of the new interior included seat testing by WestJet Rewards members and employees in early 2023, followed by a full-scale prototype trial in summer 2025. Feedback from these sessions was incorporated into the final design.
To complement the refreshed interiors, WestJet is rolling out TELUS-powered Wi-Fi across its narrowbody fleet. The high-speed, low-latency system delivers streaming-capable connectivity in the air and is offered free to WestJet Rewards members. Installation is expected to be complete on all 737 MAX 8 and 737-800 aircraft by the end of 2025.
