Thales Group has launched FlytEDGE Aura, a new seat-end in-flight entertainment (IFE) system for its FlytEDGE platform, at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2026.

The system features a redesigned seatback architecture with 4K HDR10+ tandem OLED displays and integrated processing powered by Qualcomm chipsets embedded within each screen. According to Thales, the system delivers higher processing performance compared to previous generations.

FlytEDGE Aura includes dual USB-C ports providing up to 120W charging capacity, Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity for wireless audio, and Wi-Fi 7 capability at the seat level to support onboard network redundancy alongside the FlytEDGE onboard data centre.

The hardware architecture has been designed to reduce weight and complexity, with the company stating the system is more than 30% lighter than its predecessor. A modular design separates display, processing and port components, enabling faster replacement and maintenance, as well as future upgrades.

The seat system is supported by a compact seat box delivering up to 350W of power and capable of supporting multiple seats through dynamic power distribution.

Kurt Weidemeyer, Vice-President, Product Management for InFlyt Experience at Thales Group, said: “FlytEDGE Aura combines design and display technologies with future-ready architecture, enabling airlines to upgrade cabin systems while maintaining compatibility with evolving passenger technologies.”

The system is positioned as part of broader efforts to increase processing capability, connectivity performance and maintainability in next-generation IFE platforms.
