Air Canada has announced its most extensive cabin renewal initiative to date, a multi-year programme aimed at modernising interiors, elevating comfort levels, and unifying the onboard experience across Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, and Air Canada Express. The upgrade, inspired heavily by customer and crew feedback, introduces next-generation cabin technology, refreshed seating and design, and what the airline describes as the industry’s most expansive Fast, Free Wi-Fi offering, powered by Bell.
Mark Nasr, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer at Air Canada, said the transformation is centred on creating a sense of “comfort, care, and pride” the moment a customer boards any aircraft in the fleet. “Every update is designed with our customers in mind. This programme ensures consistency, reliability, and a modern experience across every flight, with a fully refreshed Rouge cabin product featuring reclining seats, enhanced in-flight entertainment, and free Wi-Fi for Aeroplan Members.”
A central component of the modernisation is the transfer of all Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from Air Canada’s mainline operations to Air Canada Rouge by 2026. Each aircraft will be fitted with 12 Business Class seats, 18 Preferred Economy seats with extra legroom and 147 Standard Economy seats
All seats will recline and include personal HD in-seat entertainment screens marking a significant comfort upgrade for the leisure-focused brand. The cabins will also offer Fast, Free Wi-Fi, ensuring uninterrupted streaming and connectivity throughout the flight.
Supporting this shift, Air Canada Rouge will establish a new crew base in Vancouver, expanding its presence in Western Canada and offering more options for leisure travellers.
All Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft will remain in the mainline fleet and receive a complete cabin overhaul, including new seating aligned with Air Canada’s modern design language, latest-generation in-seat entertainment, upgraded Fast, Free Wi-Fi and refreshed cabin interiors reflecting Air Canada’s “contemporary Canadian aesthetic”, a blend of warmth, accessibility, and modern design
The programme is already in progress, with 15 A321s currently flying in the upgraded configuration.
Air Canada is further expanding and standardising its Airbus A220 fleet, an aircraft known for its spacious interiors, low noise levels, and cutting-edge technology. The airline has 26 more A220-300s on order, all of which will be delivered with Air Canada’s new cabin design standard. Beginning March 2026, these aircraft will also incorporate Airbus’ larger XL overhead bins, offering a significant improvement in cabin storage capacity.
The carrier’s regional operations operated by Jazz will also undergo a substantial interior modernisation beginning in 2026. Aircraft receiving Air Canada’s new design standard include Embraer E175 and Mitsubishi CRJ-900
Next-generation Fast, Free Wi-Fi is being gradually introduced across the fleet, with more than half of Air Canada Express aircraft already upgraded. Additionally, 25 Dash 8-400 aircraft will undergo a complete interior redesign featuring:
- New cabin environment
- New seating
- New interiors
- Fast, Free Wi-Fi on Toronto’s Billy Bishop routes
Air Canada is pairing its cabin enhancements with upgraded onboard service. Across Air Canada, Rouge, and Air Canada Express, passengers will now receive complimentary beer and wine along with Canadian-made snack favourites, including:
- MadeGood Morning Bars (before 10 a.m.)
- TWIGZ seasoned pretzels
- Leclerc Célébration cookies
