Etihad Airways has unveiled a bold new chapter in regional air travel, launching its all-new Airbus A321LR aircraft, bringing widebody-style First Class luxury, Business comfort, and Economy innovation to short- and medium-haul flights.
Set to debut in August 2025, the A321LR is a key milestone in Etihad’s Journey 2030 growth strategy, aimed at doubling its fleet, tripling passenger numbers, and opening 16 new destinations in 2025 alone. From fully enclosed First Suites and lie-flat Business seats to expansive Economy seating and ultra-fast streaming Wi-Fi, the A321LR ushers in a new era of single-aisle opulence.
“The A321LR is an amazing aircraft which proves our commitment to luxury, customer experience, and connectivity,” said Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways. “With our new First Suites, 14 lie-flat Business seats with direct-aisle access, and upgraded Economy, we’ve taken the luxury experience which we are famed for on our widebody fleet and adapted it to offer guests the same experience in a single-aisle aircraft – all while keeping them seamlessly connected with superfast, streaming Wi-Fi throughout the journey.
More broadly, the A321LR marks a transformational moment for Etihad as the airline accelerates toward its 2030 vision: doubling fleet size, tripling passenger numbers, and opening 16 new destinations in 2025 alone.
All-New First Suites
Etihad’s A321LR will feature just two private First Suites, the airline’s first-ever implementation of full First-Class luxury on a narrowbody aircraft. Each suite offers a fully enclosed space with a sliding door, a lie-flat bed, an elevated dining experience, and refined design details. The suites include space for a companion to sit, a 20” 4K entertainment screen, Bluetooth pairing, and wireless charging, ensuring premium connectivity and comfort at every step.
Lie-Flat Business Class in a Herringbone Layout
The Business Class cabin brings widebody-style design to a single aisle, with 14 forward-facing, fully lie-flat 78” beds in a 1-1 herringbone layout. Each seat features a 17.3” 4K screen, Bluetooth audio, wireless charging, and generous personal storage, offering an uninterrupted and tech-savvy journey for premium travelers.
Next-Gen Economy: Wider, Smarter, More Comfortable
Etihad’s A321LR also raises the bar in Economy with 144 seats featuring up to 5 inches of recline, ergonomic improvements, and 18.4-inch width, one of the widest Economy seats in the industry. Each seat includes a 13.3” 4K touchscreen, USB charging, and access to the airline’s upgraded entertainment platform.
In-flight connectivity that rivals the ground
All cabins are equipped with Viasat’s latest high-speed, multi-orbit-ready satellite Wi-Fi system, supporting speeds of up to 1 Gbps. From gate to gate, passengers can stream movies, engage on social media, play games, and watch live TV throughout the flight, blurring the line between on-the-ground convenience and in-air luxury.
First Class Experience Beyond the Seat
Etihad is expanding its First class offering across more routes, and the launch of the A321LR is matched by a suite of luxury services that begin long before takeoff and extend well beyond landing.
“As well as investing heavily to expand our first-class offering, we’re taking the time to enhance every tiny detail of the experience and introducing a host of new premium services over the next couple of months. Stay tuned,” said Neves.
Travelers who book First will be granted 24/7 support from the new Etihad Concierge service for personalized travel planning. In first-class destinations, guests enjoy a private chauffeur, dedicated check-in, priority boarding, and seamless arrival experiences, including porter services and limousine transfers.
In Abu Dhabi, enhancements include complimentary Home Check-In and Land & Leave services, allowing guests to breeze through the airport without baggage. At Zayed International Airport, first-class guests may also be chauffeured to the aircraft door in a limousine if not boarding directly from the terminal.
“First isn’t just a seat, it is an experience that starts the moment you choose to fly with us,” added Neves. “We’re bringing First to more destinations and elevating it at every touchpoint, combining the elegance of champagne and caviar with the convenience of modern luxury.”
New Routes, New Horizons
The A321LR enters service on 1 August 2025, with ten aircraft joining the Etihad fleet this year. Destinations from Abu Dhabi include:
- Europe: Athens, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Milan, Paris, Zurich
- Asia: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Kolkata, Krabi, Medan, Phuket, Phnom Penh

Etihad’s investment in the A321LR not only revolutionizes regional travel but also underscores its pivotal role in boosting tourism and economic development across Abu Dhabi and beyond.
