Honeywell’s JetWave X satellite communications (SATCOM) system is designed to provide high-speed in-flight connectivity for business aircraft using multiple Ka-band satellite networks.

The system can automatically switch between available satellite networks during flight, allowing the aircraft to maintain connectivity when moving between satellite coverage areas. This multi-network architecture is intended to support more consistent connectivity across different routes.

JetWave X supports download speeds of up to 200 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 20 Mbps. The available bandwidth can support applications such as video conferencing, cloud-based business applications, media streaming, messaging, and other connected cabin services.

For business aircraft cabins, the system can provide the connectivity required for passenger internet access as well as crew communications and connected onboard applications.

The JetWave X upgrade has also been designed for aircraft already equipped with Honeywell JetWave systems. The retrofit requires replacement of three line-replaceable units (LRUs), installation of the JetWave X antenna in the existing JetWave tail-mount location, and limited structural and wiring changes.

The existing installation arrangement can reduce the amount of modification required during the retrofit, although installation time and aircraft downtime will vary depending on the aircraft configuration.

Honeywell is pursuing certification for JetWave X across a range of business aircraft. Target platforms include Bombardier Challenger 300, 350, 3500, 601, 604 and 650, as well as Global 5000, 5500, 6000, 6500 and 7500 aircraft.

Dassault Falcon 900, 2000, 6X, 7X, 8X and 10X aircraft are also included in the certification programme. Embraer Praetor 500 and 600 aircraft, along with Gulfstream G500, G550, G600, G650, G700 and G800, are also among the targeted platforms.

West Star Aviation provides installation and certification support for Honeywell SATCOM systems, including aircraft engineering, structural integration, avionics installation, and cabin network integration.

The multi-network configuration also allows JetWave X to be used with different Ka-band satellite networks as connectivity infrastructure develops, providing operators with an upgrade path as additional satellite capacity becomes available.
