Panasonic Avionics Corporation has announced that its complete range of Astrova 4K OLED in-flight entertainment screens has achieved Eyesafe Display Requirements 3.0 certification, making it the first IFE system to receive the voluntary, third-party certification.

The certification covers Astrova’s 4K OLED IFE screens ranging from 13 inches to 42 inches. It evaluates display performance and blue-light management criteria, providing airlines with an additional consideration when selecting display technologies for extended passenger viewing.

Panasonic Avionics said the certification reflects the growing focus on passenger comfort and display performance as travellers spend extended periods using seatback entertainment systems during flights.

Astrova’s OLED screens use spectral tuning at the pixel level to manage blue-light emissions while maintaining the image quality associated with 4K OLED technology, including colour, contrast and clarity.

According to Panasonic Avionics, the Eyesafe-certified displays can help airlines provide a more consistent viewing experience across cabin classes and screen sizes while incorporating wellness-focused technology into the passenger experience.

“The Eyesafe certification of Astrova’s OLED screens demonstrates Panasonic Avionics’ commitment to advanced display technology, passenger comfort, and continuous innovation in the in-flight entertainment experience,” said Adri Ruiter, Senior Vice President of In-flight Systems and Senior Vice President of Global Operations, Panasonic Avionics.

Eyesafe Display Requirements 3.0 provides a framework for assessing blue-light emissions and other display performance characteristics. The certification is voluntary and independently verified by a third party.

Panasonic Avionics said the certification enables airlines to combine immersive 4K OLED entertainment with display technology designed to support more comfortable viewing during longer sessions.

The company noted that Eyesafe certification is not a government approval, regulatory authorisation or safety certification.
