ZIM Aircraft Seating has completed the sale of its Aircraft Reconfiguration Technologies (ART) business to AAR CORP., following a definitive agreement signed on 17 December 2025.

The divestiture marks a strategic shift for ZIM as it narrows its focus to its core aircraft seating portfolio, spanning Premium Economy, Business Class, and Economy Class products. The company said the move is intended to streamline operations and support growth across its seating platforms.

“This divestiture allows us to simplify our structure and concentrate fully on what we do best: designing and manufacturing world-class seating solutions,” said Yvonne McConachie, Co-CEO and President, ZIM Americas, ZIM Aircraft Seating. “This sharper focus enhances our operational agility, supports faster delivery cycles, and enables our teams to drive greater value for our airline and OEM customers.”

ZIM stated it will continue investing in engineering, industrialisation, and production capabilities, with particular emphasis on Premium Economy seating, a segment that has seen sustained demand from airlines seeking higher-yield cabin configurations.

The transaction reflects a broader trend of portfolio optimisation across the aircraft interiors and MRO ecosystem. Suppliers are increasingly divesting non-core activities to concentrate on specialised product lines, while MRO providers are expanding capabilities through acquisitions.

For AAR CORP., the acquisition of ART strengthens its aircraft modification and reconfiguration offering, an area of growing importance as airlines accelerate cabin upgrades, fleet transitions, and retrofits.

In recent years, the aircraft seating segment has also experienced supply chain constraints and certification backlogs, prompting manufacturers to prioritise core programmes and improve delivery performance. At the same time, Premium Economy has emerged as one of the fastest-growing cabin classes globally, with airlines across long-haul and select narrowbody operations expanding installations to capture incremental revenue.

ZIM’s move follows similar strategic actions by interiors suppliers to streamline operations and align with evolving airline demand, particularly as post-pandemic fleet modernisation and cabin refurbishment cycles continue to drive activity across the sector.
