In a significant move to enhance the passenger inflight experience, Embraer, Viasat, and Aeromexico have jointly announced the progressive rollout of high-speed satellite-based internet connectivity on Aeromexico’s fleet of Embraer E190 aircraft. The upgrade utilizes Viasat’s global Ka-band network, allowing passengers to stream movies and live sports, browse the internet, send emails, and stay connected to their social networks all from 30,000 feet above ground.

As of now, six Aeromexico E190 jets have been successfully retrofitted with Viasat’s advanced in-flight connectivity solution, with installations underway on the remaining 28 aircraft, bringing the total to 34 upgraded E190s by project completion. The enhanced onboard connectivity experience is powered by Viasat Amara, the next-generation IFC (In-Flight Connectivity) solution that is now available to all Embraer E-Jet operators globally.

Highlighting the broader transformation underway at Aeromexico, Andres Castañeda, chief digital and customer experience officer & EVP, stated:  “We are upgrading our Aeromexico Connect E190 fleet to deliver exceptional in-flight experiences on our short-haul routes. With Wi-Fi available on all our E190 aircraft by 2027, Aeromexico will be the first and only airline in Latin America to offer ad-supported free messaging across our entire network. This means our passengers can stay connected wherever they fly, with the option to purchase internet packages for enhanced connectivity.”

Speaking on the growing demand for seamless inflight experiences, Don Buchman, SVP & GM of Commercial Aviation at Viasat, emphasized: “As global demand for in-flight connectivity skyrockets with passengers increasingly expecting to stream movies and shows the way they do at home while 30,000 feet in the sky, we are thrilled to collaborate with Aeromexico and Embraer. Both companies value high-quality, fast, and reliable onboard Wi-Fi service to create an exceptional passenger experience.”

For Embraer, the connectivity initiative underscores its ongoing efforts to enhance cabin experience and lifecycle support for E-Jet operators. Carlos Naufel, president and chief executive of Embraer Services & Support, noted: “Embraer is constantly working to improve the experience in its wide range of aircraft. Offering connectivity services on Aeromexico’s E-Jets fleet is an important step to provide more comfort to the airline’s customers.”

Beyond connectivity, Embraer continues to offer a broad suite of tailored aftermarket solutions to support its growing global E-Jets fleet. The introduction of Viasat Amara to the E190 program sets a benchmark for in-flight digital services on regional aircraft, aligning with a broader industry shift toward data-rich, connected cabins.

With the E190 fleet modernization, Aeromexico is positioning itself as a leader in digital aviation in Latin America, offering passengers not just physical comfort but seamless digital immersion across its short-haul network. As cabin connectivity becomes a key differentiator in airline service quality, this strategic initiative places Aeromexico, Embraer, and Viasat firmly at the forefront of passenger experience innovation.
