Air India has introduced a curated series of festive culinary offerings across its in-flight services and airport lounges, as part of its broader strategy to elevate the onboard passenger experience through culturally immersive service elements. The initiative, spanning key Indian festivals such as Eid, Navratri and Gudi Padwa, reflects the airline’s focus on integrating regional authenticity into its service design across both domestic and international operations.

As part of the Eid celebrations, Air India will serve the traditional dessert Sheer Khurma on all flights departing on March 20, 2026. The offering has been rolled out across all cabin classes and network segments, including domestic routes, international departures, and return sectors catered at overseas stations. This ensures a standardised festive experience across the airline’s global footprint.

From an inflight service design perspective, the dessert has been integrated into the main meal service on flights offering multiple meal cycles, allowing for seamless inclusion without disrupting existing service flows. On flights with lighter refreshment services, the standard menu structure will remain unchanged. This approach highlights a calibrated balance between service enhancement and operational efficiency.

The rollout has been executed in coordination with Air India’s key catering partners, including TajSATS, Oberoi Flight Services, Casino Air Caterers and Flight Services (CAFS), and Ambassador’s Sky Chef (ASC). The alignment across multiple catering units underscores the airline’s emphasis on consistency in quality, presentation, and service delivery across geographies, an ongoing challenge in large-scale airline catering operations.

Extending beyond the cabin environment, Air India has also leveraged its lounge infrastructure to reinforce the festive theme through regionally curated menus.

At the recently inaugurated Maharaja Lounge at Delhi International Airport, a special Navratri thali has been introduced, featuring fasting-compliant dishes such as fresh fruits, Sabudana Khichdi, Raita, Buttermilk, Paneer preparations and Kheer. The menu has been designed in response to passenger demand for culturally aligned dining options, particularly during religious observances.

Meanwhile, the Adani Lounge in Mumbai marked Gudi Padwa on March 19 with a selection of traditional sweets, including Shrikhand, Chocolate Peda, Orange Coconut Barfi, Mawa Modak and Gujiya, reflecting western India’s festive culinary landscape.

Building on this, the Mumbai lounge will also offer a dedicated Eid menu on March 21, with an expanded selection for both lunch and dinner services. The offering includes Dal Gosht, Malai Chicken Gilafi Kebab, Kacchi Murg Biryani and Paneer Reshmi Handi, complemented by desserts such as Shahi Tukda, Baklava and Phirni. The diversity of the menu reflects an attempt to deliver a premium, occasion-based dining experience within the lounge environment.

This multi-touchpoint initiative, spanning inflight catering and ground-based hospitality demonstrates Air India’s evolving approach to passenger experience, where food and beverage offerings are increasingly being used as a strategic lever to create differentiation and emotional engagement. By embedding cultural narratives into its service framework, the airline is positioning itself to deliver a more personalised and memorable journey for passengers across its expanding global network.
