Jetstar Airways has selected Viasat’s AMARA in-flight connectivity (IFC) solution to equip its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet as part of a cabin modernisation programme focused on long-haul operations.
The system will be installed across 11 aircraft, with the first already in service. Fleetwide installations are expected to continue through mid-2027.

According to Viasat, the AMARA platform is designed to support multi-orbit connectivity, enabling airlines to integrate capacity from different satellite networks over time. The solution will initially operate on Viasat’s Ka-band satellite network and is expected to incorporate additional capacity, including ViaSat-3 satellites and planned Ka-band low Earth orbit (LEO) services.
Jetstar’s updated 787 cabins will offer onboard Wi-Fi and wireless in-flight entertainment. Business class passengers will have access included, while economy passengers will be offered paid connectivity options. The airline is also aligning its cabin strategy with increasing passenger preference for personal device usage, reducing reliance on traditional seatback screens.

The agreement reflects a broader industry trend toward scalable, software-driven connectivity platforms capable of adapting to evolving bandwidth demands across global flight networks.
