ZIM Aircraft Seating has introduced a new Premium Economy seat, “The Frame,” at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2026 in Hamburg, targeting improvements in passenger comfort, weight reduction, and material sustainability.
The seat features a lightweight structure that is approximately 15% lighter than comparable products, equating to a reduction of around 8 kg per passenger. The design incorporates wooden structural elements and reduces the use of plastics through the integration of recyclable and reusable materials.
Passenger comfort enhancements include a newly developed kinematic recline system aimed at smoother and more ergonomic seat movement. The seat also integrates mesh support structures designed to improve pressure distribution and long-term comfort, along with an adjustable headrest. An optional electric actuation system is available.

From an operational perspective, the seat is built on a modular platform to support easier maintenance, upgrades, and midlife refreshes, with the aim of reducing downtime and lifecycle costs.
