Austrian Airlines and Spafax have announced a partnership focused on the commercialization of inflight entertainment (IFE) and lounge media across the Austrian Airlines network.

Under the agreement, Spafax will support the airline’s seatback pre-roll IFE advertising and lounge media network. The partnership aims to expand Austrian Airlines’ media offering through Spafax’s international advertiser relationships and aviation media expertise.

The collaboration includes the refinement of Austrian Airlines’ media inventory to align with international advertising standards, with the updated offering now being introduced through Spafax’s global sales network.

Markus Leopold, Marketing Manager Retail Media at Austrian Airlines, said the airline’s cabins and lounges provide an environment for brands to connect with passengers during travel.

“Our cabins and lounges create a unique environment where brands can engage with our guests in a way that simply isn’t possible through other channels,” said Markus Leopold, Marketing Manager Retail Media at Austrian Airlines.

Leopold added,“With Spafax, we have a partner with the global reach and advertiser relationships to bring our media proposition to market at scale, while ensuring every brand experience our guests encounter is relevant, considered and in keeping with the Austrian travel experience.”

The partnership reflects a wider industry trend in which airlines are expanding the commercial use of onboard entertainment platforms and passenger touchpoints as ancillary revenue streams.
