Emirates has brought its ambitious multi-billion-dollar retrofit programme to Southeast Asia, with the deployment of a newly refurbished Boeing 777 on the Dubai–Kuala Lumpur route. The upgrade is part of the airline’s mission to deliver a consistent, elevated passenger experience across its global network, with interiors that seamlessly blend luxury, comfort, and thoughtful design.
The retrofitted Boeing 777 features completely refreshed interiors across all four cabin classes—First, Business, Premium Economy, and Economy. The design reaffirms Emirates’ position as a carrier that prioritizes both aesthetic appeal and passenger comfort, ensuring every traveller enjoys a seamless journey, no matter the class of travel.
While First and Business Class travellers continue to benefit from Emirates’ hallmark luxury finishes and privacy-focused layouts, the standout story lies in the introduction of the Premium Economy cabin on this route.

Premium Economy
Emirates’ Premium Economy is a carefully curated product designed to bridge the gap between Economy and Business Class. Passengers flying between Dubai and Kuala Lumpur can now experience:
- Generously spaced leather seats with deep recline, leg rests, footrests, and six-way adjustable headrests.
- Smart functionality, including in-seat charging, a wood-finished side cocktail table, and fold-out dining tables in polished woodgrain.
- Entertainment immersion via 13.3-inch HD TV screens—among the largest in its class paired with Emirates’ award-winning ICE content system.
- Comfort touches, including oversized pillows, thick blankets, and amenity kits on select flights.
Dining with elegance
Beyond seating comfort, Premium Economy elevates the dining experience. Meals are served on Royal Doulton fine china with stainless steel cutlery wrapped in linen, creating a refined atmosphere that belies its positioning as a mid-tier class. Passengers also enjoy a curated menu of regional cuisine, paired with premium wines and beverages available throughout the flight.
This careful layering of service and design transforms Premium Economy into more than just a seat upgrade, it becomes an experience that mirrors Business Class service sensibilities, without the same price tag.
The refreshed interiors also carry through Emirates’ design ethos of woodgrain finishes, neutral colour palettes, and high-quality textiles, ensuring a sense of continuity across the fleet. The result is an aircraft cabin that feels simultaneously contemporary and distinctly Emirates, reinforcing the brand’s reputation as a leader in cabin design and passenger experience.
The Kuala Lumpur deployment is part of Emirates’ fleet-wide retrofit programme, which will eventually cover 219 aircraft. To date, 67 aircraft have been refurbished. By the end of 2025, the airline plans to offer nearly 2 million Premium Economy seats annually, doubling to 4 million in 2026.
For Malaysian travellers, this translates to not just a premium experience on the Dubai–Kuala Lumpur route but also seamless connections to London Heathrow, New York JFK, Lyon, and dozens of other destinations where Premium Economy is available.
“The new interiors bring more comfort and more choice, ensuring every passenger enjoys a seamless and consistent journey, no matter how they choose to fly,” said Saeed Mubarak, Country Manager, Emirates Malaysia. His words reflect a larger trend in global aviation: passenger experience has become a defining factor of airline identity, and Emirates’ investment shows its commitment to staying ahead in this race.
As Emirates continues its retrofit programme, the airline is effectively reimagining the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 as platforms for a new standard of comfort and elegance. The introduction of Premium Economy not only strengthens its product offering but also creates a ripple effect across the industry, raising passenger expectations worldwide.
Emirates is setting a benchmark for cabin refurbishment projects where design, passenger comfort, and brand identity converge to create a cohesive and elevated flying experience.
