Austrian luxury cabin interiors specialist F/List has launched Lightshifter, a new material concept that integrates lighting directly into wood veneer surfaces, offering a new way to transform the look and feel of aircraft cabins.

Building on its earlier Shapeshifter innovation, which reimagined cabin structures for multiple uses, Lightshifter enables naturally oiled veneer to act as a light source at the touch of a button. When activated, the wooden surface becomes a stage for light displays that add depth and dimension; when switched off, it returns seamlessly to its original state with no visible traces of the system.

“Our customers are always looking for new ways to enhance the cabin environment without bulky objects, visible technology, or additional weight,” said Michael Müller, managing director of F/List Aviation. “Lightshifter changes the atmosphere invisibly yet powerfully. Imagine a partition wall that transforms from plain wood to a vibrant, illuminated pattern – it opens up a whole new design dimension for business jet and airline cabins.”

The technology relies on a new combination of materials that preserves the durability of natural wood while enabling integrated illumination. The lighting can function as a subtle source for passengers or as a dramatic backdrop for branding, imagery, or creative installations.

Patrick Domnanich, director of research & development at F/List, added: “We are once again unleashing the imagination with a concept that has never been seen before. Lightshifter covers the entire spectrum of lighting design – from functional cabin lighting without visible fixtures to impressive installations that reflect brands, destinations, or personal preferences.”

The innovation complements F/List’s existing wood veneer portfolio and is targeted at airlines, OEMs, completion centers, and designers seeking lightweight, customizable solutions to elevate the passenger experience.
