Panasonic–Intellian collaboration brings new era of LEO-based inflight connectivity

Panasonic Avionics Corporation and Intellian Technologies have developed a Low Earth Orbit (LEO)-only terminal system designed to improve inflight connectivity for airlines.

The system features Intellian’s aviation antenna with an Electronically Steered Array (ESA), integrating the modem and controller into a lightweight unit that does not require a radome. The companies said the terminal will connect to Eutelsat’s OneWeb network and deliver speeds of up to 195 Mbps with latency of less than 100 milliseconds.

John Wade, Vice President of Connectivity at Panasonic Avionics, described the system as “a game-changer for airlines,” adding: “It blends best-in-class performance with unmatched resiliency and the reliability our customers expect. I firmly believe that this blend of price point and performance specifications, unmatched by any other provider, will fundamentally change the way airlines use inflight connectivity.”

The terminal will be available for retrofit installations from late 2026. Its modular design is intended to reduce downtime, allow overnight installation, and support future hardware or network upgrades. Airlines will also be able to use the system alongside existing connectivity solutions to add multi-orbit capabilities.

Eric Sung, CEO of Intellian Technologies, said the aviation sector is a natural extension of the company’s portfolio: “Intellian has built its reputation on delivering innovative, reliable technologies that empower customers across land, sea, and enterprise markets. Together with Panasonic Avionics, we are introducing a solution that will redefine inflight connectivity, combining our proven expertise with Panasonic’s leadership to deliver unmatched value and performance for airlines worldwide.”

Weighing less than half of conventional GEO or multi-orbit systems, the new terminal is also positioned to support airlines’ sustainability goals by lowering fuel burn. The development expands Panasonic’s inflight connectivity portfolio and marks Intellian’s first major step into aviation, drawing on its antenna expertise in maritime and enterprise markets.
