Emirates has completed installation of Starlink connectivity on its first Airbus A380, marking the start of a wider rollout across its fleet.
The aircraft has returned to Dubai following installation and certification work carried out in Newquay, UK. It is the first A380 in the airline’s fleet to be equipped with the low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite-based system.
Emirates said the upgrade represents a significant increase in onboard bandwidth compared to earlier-generation systems, which provided less than 1 Mbps at aircraft level. The Starlink installation on the A380 uses three antennas and is designed to deliver more than 2 Gbps of total aircraft capacity, reflecting the higher passenger density and dual-deck configuration of the aircraft.

The airline plans to accelerate installations through 2026, with work expected to expand to its in-house engineering facilities in Dubai. The service will be offered free of charge across all cabins and is designed to support streaming, browsing and other high-bandwidth applications on passenger devices.
The A380 configuration differs from that on the Boeing 777-300ER, which already features Starlink on 25 aircraft in the Emirates fleet. The A380 installation includes additional wireless access points and a third antenna to support coverage across both decks.
Emirates has not disclosed specific performance targets per passenger, noting that speeds will vary depending on usage and device capability.
According to the airline, more than 650,000 passengers have already travelled on Starlink-equipped flights. The connectivity rollout is part of a broader fleet upgrade programme, which includes cabin retrofits across multiple aircraft types.

The move reflects a broader shift in inflight connectivity towards LEO satellite networks, which offer lower latency and higher throughput compared to traditional geostationary systems. Airlines including Qatar Airways and Hawaiian Airlines have also announced or begun deploying Starlink-based connectivity on selected aircraft.
The A380 installation presents additional engineering complexity due to its size and passenger capacity, requiring multiple antennas and optimised cabin network architecture. As airlines seek to enable gate-to-gate connectivity and support bandwidth-intensive applications, multi-antenna and hybrid connectivity solutions are becoming more common across widebody fleets.
