IdeaNova and Cadami have announced a partnership to deploy a software-based content delivery approach that extends content distribution networks (CDNs) into the aircraft cabin.

The joint solution combines IdeaNova’s Inplay Edge caching technology with Cadami’s STACHUS storage and distribution platform to enable onboard content delivery closer to passengers. The approach is designed to reduce reliance on satellite bandwidth by distributing and caching content across cabin endpoints, supporting both inflight entertainment (IFE) libraries and over-the-top (OTT) streaming.

Cadami’s STACHUS platform aggregates storage across onboard systems to enable content distribution, failover and throughput across cabin networks. IdeaNova’s Inplay Edge, built on the Open Caching standard, is used to manage content placement and delivery within the aircraft environment.

According to the companies, the system operates within existing onboard infrastructure and does not require additional hardware. It is intended to support consistent media playback during peak demand while optimising use of available connectivity.

“Airlines can’t keep scaling bandwidth to meet rising streaming demand,” said Juraj Siska, CEO of IdeaNova. “By turning the aircraft into a CDN edge node, we’re changing how content is delivered onboard — improving performance while reducing reliance on costly connectivity. Partnering with Cadami enables significant expansion of edge node capacity by allowing each display to contribute a portion of its storage to the edge.”

Michel Heindlmaier, Managing Director of Cadami, added: “STACHUS was designed for the unique constraints of the aircraft cabin. Partnering with IdeaNova allows us to extend that foundation into a true CDN-edge architecture that helps airlines deliver content more efficiently and consistently.”

The companies stated that the solution can be deployed incrementally via software updates, enabling integration with existing IFE and connectivity systems. It is also positioned to support future applications such as personalised content delivery and expanded onboard media services.

Cadami reports that its STACHUS platform has been deployed on more than 700 aircraft since 2017.

The joint solution will be demonstrated at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2026 in Hamburg.
