Lufthansa Group has announced a long-term collaboration with Starlink to introduce high-speed broadband inflight connectivity across its entire fleet, marking a significant upgrade to the airline group’s cabin digital infrastructure and onboard passenger experience.
From 2026 onwards, the Lufthansa Group plans to equip all of its approximately 850 aircraft, across existing and future deliveries, with Starlink’s satellite-based connectivity solution. The technology is designed to deliver internet performance comparable to ground-based networks, enabling passengers to stream content, access cloud-based services, and use high-bandwidth applications during flight.
“Connectivity on board plays an important role today,” said Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group.
The introduction of higher-capacity connectivity is expected to support the evolution of next-generation inflight entertainment and connected cabin services, allowing airlines to move beyond traditional IFE systems toward more personalised, device-driven, and data-enabled passenger experiences.

Under the planned service model, high-speed internet access will be offered free of charge to Lufthansa Group status customers and registered Travel ID users across all cabin classes. The airline group said this positions it as the largest airline group in Europe to deploy Starlink connectivity across its fleet, both in terms of aircraft count and network scale.
The rollout of Starlink-equipped aircraft is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, with full fleet coverage targeted by 2029. The upgrade will apply to multiple Lufthansa Group airlines and aircraft types, covering both short- and long-haul operations.
Lufthansa Group said the connectivity programme forms part of its wider investment in new aircraft, cabin products, and digital services across the passenger journey. Enhanced onboard connectivity is increasingly seen as a core element of modern cabin design, influencing IFE architectures, seat integration, power management, and aircraft modification strategies.
Further technical and operational details of the Starlink installation and its integration with Lufthansa Group’s in-flight entertainment and digital platforms are expected to be announced later in the year.
