In-flight connectivity has long been positioned as a passenger-facing amenity, enabling passengers to access the internet, stream content, and send messages during flights. However, for low-cost and ultra-low-cost carriers operating narrowbody aircraft on short-haul routes, the business case for onboard broadband has historically been difficult to justify.
A newly announced partnership between Immfly, Gogo Inflight, and Eutelsat OneWeb reflects a shift in how airlines are approaching cabin connectivity, positioning it as a core enabler of onboard operations and revenue generation rather than solely a passenger service.
The collaboration brings together Gogo’s electronically steered antenna technology, Eutelsat OneWeb’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) high-speed satellite network, and Immfly’s hardware-agnostic Equilux Aero server. The combined solution is designed to deliver reliable connectivity to narrowbody fleets that have traditionally operated without consistent broadband coverage, particularly within the LCC and ULCC segments.

Connectivity beyond passenger Wi-Fi
Rather than focusing exclusively on passenger internet access, the tri-party solution is intended to support multiple cabin and operational functions. These include real-time payment processing, digital onboard retail platforms, and improved access to live information for cabin crew during flight.
Many narrowbody fleets currently operate with limited connectivity, resulting in delayed transaction processing, manual reconciliation of onboard sales, paper-based menus, and reduced visibility into in-flight commercial activity until after landing. According to the partners, reliable broadband connectivity allows the cabin to function as a live commercial and operational environment.
With always-on connectivity, onboard payments can be processed in real time, reducing post-flight reconciliation workloads. Digital retail platforms can replace paper-based processes, allowing crews to access updated information during the flight, which supports more efficient cabin workflows and reduces administrative corrections after arrival.
Infrastructure-led approach to cabin systems
Immfly’s strategy positions connectivity as onboard infrastructure rather than a standalone service. By integrating broadband with content delivery, retail systems, and crew tools, the company aims to enable airlines to extract greater operational and commercial value from connected cabins.
The partnership targets narrowbody aircraft operated on short- and medium-haul routes, where connectivity adoption has lagged widebody fleets due to cost and installation constraints. The use of LEO satellite connectivity and electronically steered antennas is intended to reduce installation complexity while supporting higher throughput and lower latency.
As airlines increasingly look to onboard revenue and efficiency gains to support their business models, the shift toward connectivity as an operational backbone marks a notable change in cabin systems strategy, particularly for cost-sensitive narrowbody operators.
